Yes it was a issue waiting to come up. Many good websites exist and enough websites just start the "backpacking" on them, bluntly copy them, ripping them off for click, cash and and crap schemes.
I agree with Steve's post, even if i don't agree with the title and the fact that you need to follow some other posts here to understand it.
If you "create, advertise and market" divers / dive professional websites, do so in a honest way. If you're "in for the bucks", i think that's cool, just don't try to sell it different. It just don't sit well with people if / when they notice. I don't think anything is wrong with a commercial approach to professional divers interests - make it clear from starters and you have no problem! Maybe i am stupid and naive here, but it is my view at it.
I sell you ME, i tell you MY views, i don't sell out my life because you pay me for some work, i don't believe in one single training agency (yet) and i don't believe in people trying to sell me their life as the "next big thing". I love what i do, i don't need to tell you why ;). I participate on some websites, because i agree with the goals and ideas. I am disgusted to find out that even our microscopic scuba community is a cut-throat business of "wannabe idiots", decent "commercial" sites, scum posing as decent/idealistic scuba web projects etc..
Is it really so difficult to have a handful of people talk with each other (instead of running semi identical websites) and create/build one website or a "web" (like many many, as "The Web" used to suggest when people talked about the internet as "The Web")
So i don't care about the DPI, Scubaprof, Diverspress, SiegHeilDiver, NeverDivedYet, ClickWithoutGettingWet etc. etc. sh*t.
YOU GUYS START TO DO SOMETHING TO BENEFIT THE DIVERS AND STOP JERKING AROUND ABOUT EACH OTHER!
