regulator

San Diego, CA (Scuba PRWire) Sun, 12-Nov-2006 - Aqua Lung, the leader in SCUBA diving products, has unveiled Kronos, the first regulator to offer a lateral bubble deflector along with a combined adjuster for unprecedented breathing performance.

Kronos gives divers a clear view by routing bubbles to the side with an innovative side exhaust deflector, versus traditional regulators that put a curtain of bubbles in front of a diver's face.

"Other companies have attempted to design side exhaust regulators but the exhaust valve has been moved away from the bottom of the second stage to the side which leads to problems with wet breathing and inconsistent exhaust efforts," said Tom Phillipp, product manager for Aqua Lung's Pro Dive division. "Kronos solves these issues by keeping the exhaust valve in the conventional downward position and adding the patented Side ‘X deflector. This design gives the diver consistency of optimum exhalation effort and the ability to exhaust in any underwater position."

Kronos also resists freezing during cold water dives with Aqua Lung's exclusive heat exchanger system. The heat of a diver's exhaled breath passes over the heat exchanger, effectively warming the valve and the cold compressed air for comfortable breathing.

For simplifying the adjustment of the regulator's injection and opening resistance, Kronos' patented Dual Cam combines the controls for the venturi setting and cracking effort into one knob. With a simple quarter turn, the diver can go from easy breathing with a venturi boost to less sensitivity without the venturi boost. The latter being most effective when the regulator is out of the mouth. The Dual Cam brings simple, fast and effective performance adjustment to the Kronos regulator.

The Kronos first stage incorporates all the latest innovations from Aqua Lung. The regulator features a compact, in-line balanced diaphragm mechanism with the Auto Closure Device (ACD). This unique spring-loaded feature effectively seals the regulator anytime that it is not connected to the air tank, simplifying maintenance and eliminating the threat of corrosion. The first stage also boasts ports for any accessory and hose configuration, with 2 high-pressure and 4 medium-pressure ports.

Kronos will be available starting in January from all Aqua Lung dealers across the country. The regulator retails for $569.The Kronos Supreme for cold water diving goes for $615. For specific stores carrying Aqua Lung products, log onto www.aqualung.com or call (760) 597-5000.
