Divi Resorts own 9 resorts on 6 islands in the Caribbean. As part of a "strategic plan" to refocus resources on potential growth markets (specifically Aruba and a second club in Bonaire), Divi has decided to close operations at Cayman Brac's Divi Tiara Beach Resort, effective September 23, 2006.
According to Mark Steward, Divi's Veep of Sales and Marketing, a number of factors influenced their decision, including increasing airline fees; heightened insurance costs resulting from tough hurricane seasons; and "increased competition from the growing number of niche market dive destinations throughout the Caribbean." Divi Tiara has recently been remodeled, so I'm kind of surprised by this announcement.
Maybe they would like to donate the resort to us, so we have a nice hq |

This is unfortunate. Dive Tiara was one of the best operations around.
For those who know him, Max has left Divi and relocated to Grand Cayman. I don’t know what he’s doing for employment, but he’s maintaining his Yahoo group for Tiara time-share owners, and knowing him, he’s probably trying to help his former staff as well. |

Divi Corporation, which recently closed their operation on Cayman Brac - the Divi Tiara Beach Resort - has confirmed that the property is for sale and that there are several interested parties.
VP Sales and Marketing, Mark Steward, told Cayman Net News that Divi is entertaining several offers at this time from a variety of entities....
In a press release, Divi said, "The decision to close the resort was based on certain economic realities of continuing a dive-oriented resort on Cayman Brac, including problems with airlift, which has affected dive guests, in particular, who need to bring additional gear for their sport."
The corporation also cites "increased competition from the growing number of niche market dive destinations throughout the Caribbean, and weather, which in the past years has created real and perceived concerns about travel to the Cayman Islands.
"Issues related to weather have also pushed insurance costs too high for coverage and ever increasing levels proposed for the future."
The release concludes, "Divi Tiara and its parent company Divi Resorts are very grateful for the service from its staff and all the others that have worked side-by side with the resort over its many years in operation.
"Although a sad time for the resort, Divi Tiara will continue to serve its dive guests at Divi Flamingo Beach Resort and Casino in Bonaire."
Hillier said, "I understand the business decision but, personally, I'm just sad that five years of turning the place around has gone. The resort is looking the best it ever has." He added, "I'm excited at the possibility that somebody who really cares about the place will take it over."
