Stuart Cove’s Dive Bahamas has always been known for its adventures. This Fall, there are not one, but TWO unique opportunities for divers to discover adventure at this popular Nassau, Bahamas dive destination.
Next month, the annual Shark Shootout event is being presented. From October 6-13, divers can join high-profile photographers like Stephen Frink of Scuba Diving magazine for a week of capturing images of the sharks that populate these local waters. If diving and photographing sharks in their native habitat is not your speed, you might want to consider participating in Conservation Week at Stuart Cove’s Dive Bahamas November 11-17.
Led by REEF Special Projects Director Lad Akins in partnership with world-renowned shark expert Stuart Cove, and including behavior experts Ned and Anna DeLoach, Bahamas dive operator Bruce Purdy, and general manager of the National Aquarium in Washington DC Andy Dehart, the team will enjoy 5 days of diving on the famous walls and reefs on the southwest end of New Providence (Nassau) to focus on a variety or research questions. Participants will attend evening seminars then dive each morning to address artificial reefs, marine protected areas, sharks and lionfish. Experts from REEF, the National Aquarium in Washington DC, and the College of the Bahamas will be on hand to conduct seminars and dive with participants to discuss various conservation issues.
In addition, Ned and Anna DeLoach, Bruce Purdy and Andy Dehart will join the team and will present their famous fish behavior talks and discuss Bahamian conservation issues during the week. Specific lionfish research will include fish movement through tagging, recruitment to artificial reefs and specimen collection and dissection for scientific analysis.
