Divers Hall of Fame™ (WDHOF) is offering 3 scholarships and 8 training grants in 2008 and the deadline for applications is November 15, 2007. WDHOF offers scholarships and training grants in diverse fields such as marine science, marine archeology, technical diving, hyperbaric medicine, handicapped diving, etc.

WDHOF scholarships are available to women as well as men of all ages who wish to pursue higher education & training, further their career goals, and seek out opportunities in the aquatic and diving-related industries.

The Women Divers Hall of Fame is a (501c3) nonprofit organization dedicated to honoring and raising awareness of the contributions of outstanding women divers. WDHOF provides educational, mentorship, financial, and career opportunities to the diving community throughout the world.

Since its inception in 2002, the WDHOF Scholarship Program has become the premier venue for scholarships in the diving industry. WDHOF has awarded dozens of scholarships and internships worth thousands of dollars to qualified individuals throughout the world.

Applications for all scholarships and training grants administered by the Women Divers Hall of Fame can be downloaded from the WDHOF website: www.wdhof.org. All applications for 2008 scholarships and training grants must be completed in full and submitted electronically by November 15, 2007. Applicants may apply for only ONE scholarship or ONE training grant.

All recipients will be notified by February 1, 2008 and they will receive their awards at the WDHOF Annual Scholarship Presentation Ceremony at the 2008 Beneath the Sea Expo in Secaucus, New Jersey in March.

The following three scholarships will be awarded in 2008.

The amount of each scholarship is $2500.

The Women Divers Hall of Fame/ Cecelia Connelly Memorial Scholarship in Underwater Archaeology

This scholarship will be awarded to a deserving woman undergraduate or graduate student enrolled in an accredited course of study in the field of Underwater Archaeology.

Undergraduate students are required to have an overall GPA of 2.5 or better, graduate students a 3.0 or better, and must be in good standing with their academic institutions. There is no applicant age limit. The scholarship is intended to assist with college tuition/fees or field study costs and is open to candidates worldwide.

The Women Divers Hall of Fame Undergraduate Marine Research Internship in Marine Biology, sponsored by Sue Morra, Ph.D. and Kathleen Dudzinski, Ph.D.

A scholarship awarded to a female undergraduate student who is (or will be) participating in an internship program with a focus in marine biology. Students must have completed at least 60 credits or hold third year (junior) status prior to starting the internship.

The Women Divers Hall of Fame Scholarship in Marine Conservation, sponsored by Hillary Viders, Ph.D.

A scholarship awarded to a qualified woman of any age, who is enrolled in an accredited academic or research program in the field of marine conservation.

The following eight training grants will be awarded in 2008.

The amount of each training grant varies and is indicated below.

The Women Divers Hall of Fame / Hugh Fletcher Memorial Training Grant to Assist the Disabled to Dive ($500)

A training grant awarded to any disabled diver who wishes to pursue or further his/her dive education.

Candidates can be male or female. The grant is presented in the form of a certificate, to be redeemed at the time the recipient enrolls in an approved diving course/program, at which time the funds are submitted directly to the training facility.

T he Women Divers Hall of Fame / Ocean Pals Junior Dive Training Grant ($500)

A training grant awarded to a deserving young female, ages 13-18, who wishes to begin or further her dive education/training. It is presented in the form of a certificate, to be redeemed at the time the recipient enrolls in an approved diving course/program, at which time the funds are submitted directly to the training facility.

The Women Divers Hall of Fame / Reimers Systems, Inc.

Certified Hyperbaric Technician Training Grant (2 grants, $800 each)

Two $800 training grants awarded to divers to be used towards enrollment in a Certified Hyperbaric Technician course. Candidates can be male or female. Each grant is presented in the form of a certificate, to be redeemed at the time the recipient enrolls in an approved diving course/program, at which time the funds are submitted directly to the training facility.

The Women Divers Hall of Fame / Scuba Made Easy Training Grant in Marine Science, Oceanography, or Ocean Engineering ($500)

A $500 training grant awarded to a deserving woman diver of any age, working in the areas of marine science, oceanography or ocean engineering.

The training grant intended to be used for the purpose of continuing diver education/training and is open to candidates worldwide. It is presented in the form of a certificate, to be redeemed at the time the recipient enrolls in an approved diving course/program, at which time the funds are submitted directly to the training facility.

The Women Divers Hall of Fame / Women’s Scuba Association Dive Training Grant ($1,500)

A training grant awarded to a deserving young male or female who wishes to begin or further his/her dive education/training. Candidates must be enrolled in the Navy’s NJROTC or NROTC program. The grant is presented in the form of a certificate, to be redeemed at the time the recipient enrolls in an approved diving course/program, at which time the funds are submitted directly to the training facility.

The Women Divers Hall of Fame / Women Underwater Technical Diving Training Grant ($500)

A $500 training grant awarded to a qualified woman diver who wishes to begin or further her dive education/training in the specialty area of technical diving.

The Women Divers Hall of Fame Training Grant, sponsored by Kathleen Rand ($500)

Kathleen Rand is the 2004 recipient of the WDHOF Hugh Fletcher Memorial Training Grant. She has established this $500 training grant to provide financial assistance to an individual, male or female, who is preparing for a professional career that involves scuba diving. The grant is presented in the form of a certificate, to be redeemed at the time the recipient enrolls in an approved diving course/program, at which time the funds are submitted directly to the training facility.
