Most of you know from talking with me and from our press releases that this summer's Ultimate Diver Challenge were held as a preliminary event.
The decision to have a preliminary event provided divers a sneak peek at the various components of the challenges so that divers will come prepared as we move forward to host the event next year once again in Cozumel. The mock challenges held in Cozumel a couple of weeks ago provides divers with answers to many of the questions related to the roles that each diver will have as part of a team without the pressure of becoming the first Ultimate Diver Team. This experience also allowed us an opportunity to examine the completion success of the challenges to make sure that with currents that each skill could be done. We had a nice turn out until Hurricane Dean sneaked in to shake things up a bit. Most of the group left. Imagine that But those that stayed, braved out a mild storm sustaining no damage to Cozumel. We were successful in shooting 3 days worth of footage after the hurricane with poor visibility for the challenges. We will be using this pilot over the next year to promote the event through the various trade shows and to capture a national network for broadcasting our first official event next August.
We used our storm time to develop necessary changes and excellent ideas for next year. I do have a team of dive shop owners and instructors that are now very solid on board and they are doing a lot of brain storming with me as well as intend to be at trade shows and at regional events to help me make this happen.
It is nice that others are catching the fever. I just know that this will be a wonderful opportunity for the growth of our sport!
I hope the footage is excellent so that we can get TV on board now as we move forward.
For those that have donated products, your exposure on our web site will continue over the next year. We will be announcing the dates, pricing and location very shortly as we are updating the web site now. The products donated will be retained for the official event unless I have spoken with you specifically about donating some items that will be needed for upcoming Regional events.
We are hosting a Regional event at Dutch Springs on October 20 and October 21. We are looking at having Regional events at several other places to include Weeki Watchi, Lake Travis in Austin, Houston, Catalina and looking at a few other places as well. We were at the Colorado Scuba Days in August and divers really enjoyed the experience of taking dive challenges. We are seeking professionals in our Industry that would like the exposure by providing demo's, guest speakers, and/or donations of additional product prizes and literature for the events. If you are interested in assisting with the regional events, contact me so that we can get your information added to the flyers that Dutch Springs is handing out daily.
Looking forward to next year as we move forward!
The web site should be up by Wednesday with complete details.
