Hurricane DEAN has passed the dive resort areas of Cozumel. Here are some first-hand reports from resorts on the island. (Thank you to Bonnie Pelnar and Ken Knezick for assistance with these reports).

FROM SCUBA CLUB COZUMEL:

7:00 am update. The storm hit about 200 miles south of us and we just barely were on the fringe of the rain and wind area. This morning it's overcast with light rain, the seas are calm although with some rolling seas into shore but other than that all is well with no damage to property and boats.

I've been watching CNN with the news caters in Tulum and Cancun showing what they can to make it as dramatic as possible but in Cozumel all is well.

To all our friends and clients who called and e-mailed with concern about us. We want you to know that we appreciated your concern and to let you know all is well in Cozumel. The center of the storm hit about 200 miles south of Cozumel sparing us the brunt of the winds and rain.

We were on the very edge of the wind and rain bands of the storm and were relatively untouched by DEAN. As of 7:00 am Tuesday I am at the resort and can tell you the resort was untouched and we have been to the harbor and our boats are all safe and ready to take you all out diving. Hope to see you all soon!

From Aqua Safari:

It's 8 am in Cozumel, and though it's overcast and blustery, it's only improvement from here on as Dean made landfall near Majahual at 3:30 this morning. We have power, telephones, internet and clients upstairs sleeping.

There's a bit of sand on the waterfront but no damage. Need a restaurant to open because I'm hungry.

We will be diving tomorrow.

Saludos from soon to be sunny Cozumel,

Aqua Safari - Bill Horn
