Divetech at Turtle Reef will be closing it's doors on Friday, August 31st after having served the shore diving community for over 12 years at this location. "It's sad of course to leave a dive site that we developed and lived in for so many years, there's no doubt about it. However, as with all things in life, change can be positive and we are very excited about the opening of a brand new shore diving site at Lighthouse Point on NW Point Road in West Bay, about a 1/2 mile south of the old Turtle Reef shop. We have been out diving at Lighthouse Point a dozen times now, and the health of the reef and abundance of marine life is astounding, so we know that our customers are going to love it" stated Nancy Easterbrook, Managing Partner of Divetech."Shore diving will be open this September, with all the outdoor amenities that our customers have come to expect from Divetech. The new site is pristine, just like Turtle Reef was when we first opened in 1995. With our new location open it will give residents and visitors an option to experience a brand new series of dive sites on Grand Cayman".
Lighthouse Point will be more than just a dive shop. The total project, anticipated to be fully open next fall will incorporate a series of 8 upscale "green technology" condos, a bistro for daytime/sunset delights and Divetech's new dive shop. "It's the ultimate natural environment for a Residential/Resort area, bringing new services to the West Bay area for both residents and visitors" commented Jay Easterbrook, the Project developer and General Contractor. "We will incorporate the latest in green and hurricane technologies and are building Lighthouse point as a signature development.
Features for the 2-bedroom 1,500 square foot condos will include energy efficient indoor and outdoor lighting, solar electric (wired for future tie-in), solar hot water, upgraded wall insulation, double pane enpacked thermal windows, custom wrought iron doors, overhead fans, broadband lighting/transmission throughout, state of the art sewage treatment, Hi/Lo water use toilets, Hi/Lo water use showers, natural landscaping requiring no watering, gas stove and dryer, energy efficient appliances and natural lighting from glass blocks, skylights and solar tubes. For hurricane protection, all condos will be wired to a Backup generator for fridge/freezer, lights, fans and stove use, hurricane shutters, 16 foot elevation and a security system all built upon a solid cement Royal system built to Cat 5 hurricane specifications.
The natural beauty of both the sea and the iron shore will be left intact and feature a 40 foot dock for Divetech and owners use. The exterior product will be Caribbean architecture with large wrap around outdoor balconies blended into an antique stone finish. A Lighthouse on-site will be the landmark feature accompanied by a Spanish anchor and cannon.
Saturday, Aug 18th from 4 to 6pm, we'll be having a "Good bye" open house at Turtle reef. Join us for refreshments, snacks, a bargain basement blow out sale on both new and used dive equipment, and join us in a toast to a great decade at a well loved dive site. You can pick up you free shore diving coupon too, to try out the new Lighthouse Poitn site with plans on display.
