I guess the old design was better and more traffic. No offense, I used to be an old divepro info fan, but now this board is slow, no traffic, people are not posintg and there is no diving industry discussion....

I think ScubaProf.com has really affected the development of this board and we need to do something to make DivePro the BEST board out there.

What I can see is that the number of posts is quite low and the number of members compare to the other board is quite low also.

any suggestions? Crying or Very sad

Hi there. Design is all the time a question of personal opinions I guess. I personally liked the old darker colors a lot better, but remember also that many people complained about it.
I see the points Argo and Lsdeep made to me, when discussing the new website with them. As they put it, they saw the pure messageboard design limiting posibilities and options to offer more services in a better organized way.
I think in so far this new design is a step forward. It took me a while to get used to it. But I think some sections (like clasifieds - jobs and things) are better than before, also employer and other reviews have a nicer systeem - wich is still improvable.
I also like the big and growing linksection and news. All not really new but in a more ordered and searchable way than before. The forums are still there including the old pro sections, I think you need to sign up to get actual access to them.

I believe it is back up and running now since about 3 to 4 weeks. In the beginning they took it very easy to see how everything works in real live. It isd about time to start and make a bigger effort again to let people know that it is back up and running.
I got some points of some of the staff guys that they take that a little easy and looking for a good way to do so to be not mixed up and thrown in the same pot like the guys from diveprof. There are threads on several other boards about the questionable ways to get traffic from their end.

I would also agree with you about the effect of them on traffic at the moment. I actually signed up there as well at one point, after realizing that it is a copy of divepro-info with absurd claims like "the first forum for scuba professionals ever" or something to this effect I didnt follow up on it any further.

I think we should let the guys here know if we have ideas and suggestions and help getting the word out again.

My two cents, Jerry

i guess jerry gave a pretty good summary what happens. we found the old forums / msg board concept a little restricting with time to provide information in a easy acessible and searchable way, plus we like to continiously expand the services and options in the future. so, the logical consequence was to get away from the old system and create something new with more flexability for future development.
we run into some problems while doing that on the tech site and into some serious time problems on our combined end here. it all took a lot longer than expected.
as the mentioned other board, well somebody "jumped the ship", actually a number of new sites. its amazing how unimaginative people are - instead of starting our own thing we copy.... yes, jerry is right, we have to get a bit more onto it now to let ppl know that it is back up. on the other hand, i am not to worried at this point. it took a while with the old board to get things going and after being nearly half a year of the screen i dont expect everybody being back instantly or at all. as we do the project without any financial aims it isnt a big factor right now. there is a astounding amount of actual traffic since the site is back up, and checking the logs returning traffic, but ppl seem reluctant to register again. we will think about "clean" ways to get the word out again and i am sure the site will slowly get back to where it used to be and above. in the meantime we will work on improvements, new ideas and throw our lawyers on everybody who infringed copyrights on our old stuff (just kidding - i give a damn - its just a statement of own inability anyway ROFL)
