The April-May 2007 issue number 16 of X-RAY International Dive Magazine has been released. It is the largest issue published so far with 105 pages of dive news, travel stories, feature articles and underwater photography. Download of the current issue, archive issues and yearly subscriptions to X-RAY MAG is free.

In the current issue, divers and dive professionals will find comprehensive travel articles on Diving the Visayas in the Philippines, with text and photos by award-winning underwater photographer Nonoy Tan of Manila; Ambon—Discovering the Spice Islands of Indonesia, with text and photos by Canadian underwater photographer, Scott Bennett; and Diving and Kayaking in New Zealand with text and photos by underwater photographer, Barb Roy of British Columbia.

In addition to enjoying in the vivid underwater photography and helpful tips in the travel stories, readers can learn about conservation efforts and threats to sharks in a profile on diver and filmmaker, Rob Stewart who directed the recently released hit movie, Sharkwater. Wolfgang Leander, director of shark preservation of the Ocean Realm Society, gives us his view in an editorial with stunning black and white underwater photographs of sharks, while underwater photographer and shark enthusiast, Edwin Marcow of the UK, provides shark news and facts in his regular column, Shark Tales.

Those with technical minds will find an article on rebreathers by Cedric Verdier who discusses comfort and efficiency issues. There is also a story on why antioxidants protect divers, written and researched by dive medicine specialist and technical editor, Dr Andrey Bizyukin of Russia. A new column by American psychiatrist, clinical investigator and dive master, Dr David F Colvard, forwards the results of a study on panic in divers. Science editor, Michael Symes, provides scientific insight and historical background on the unique waters of the Black Sea.

The photo and video section of the magazine edited by Dan Beecham and Jason Heller discusses the why’s and what-for’s of shooting video underwater. Following a comprehensive news section full of current and compelling news from around the world on diving, divers, travel, education, ocean conservation, shipwrecks, giant squid and marine life, the new equipment and trends in the industry are presented in detail as well as a report from Russia about the Golden Dolphin dive show and underwater competition in Moscow.

Those who are slaves to fashion or simply want to look good in and out of the water will enjoy the Spring Dive Fashion section featuring dive apparel, swimsuits, après dive wear and accessories such as sea jewelry and fish bags. GirlDiver, Cindy Ross, assists mermaids in her often humorous column of anecdotes and helpful tips in the often daunting task of purchasing the right swimsuit for diving.

Last but not nearly least, is a portfolio of fine wildlife artworks by Jeroen Verhoeff of the Netherlands. Verhoeff’s creative process and his views on the natural beauty of the underwater realm are presented with his awe-inspiring paintings of fish and marine life.

Saw it many times but never really read it. Subscribed for the new issue and will read it to see if I oike it. But it looks good!!

yep its a nice magazine, very well done - i usually d/l them and burn them on disk for personal archive. considering it is free it is even more so unbeatable in value. also, as far as destinations etc go i personally know it is very objective. considering the many (often rather crappy) dive magazines this days you have to pay for a rather refreshing change.
