San Diego – (September 25, 2006) – One of DEMA’s most important programs, the Ships 2 Reefs (S2R) program strives to keep our oceans healthy and the dive industry thriving by providing a way for people to enhance the dive-ability of their area, boost their business, and aid their local economy all at the same time by sinking ships to create man-made reefs. DEMA supports S2R initiatives around the U.S., and through programming at the DEMA Show and other venues throughout the year. Help your business and the industry – support Ships 2 Reefs today.
Learn more about Ships 2 Reefs during DEMA Show 2006 by attending one of the four DEMA-Sponsored Ships 2 Reefs Seminars (Track 5) taking place throughout the Show and by visiting the Ships 2 Reefs booth, #1851 to talk to those already involved in S2R projects worldwide. Each seminar will be led by those in the know on S2R, including Oriskany and Vandenberg Project team members as well as renowned wreck divers, John Chatterton and Richie Kohler and will provide valuable information on this important DEMA program and how it can benefit your business.
The “Making a Local Ships 2 Reefs Program Work - From the Masters of Roadblock Breaking” seminar will demonstrate how leaders of the S2R community around the world have navigated political, regulatory, insurance and economic roadblocks, and how you can too to successfully complete an S2R project. This seminar will take place on Wednesday November 8th from 2:30 to 3:45 p.m.
If you're interested in Ships 2 Reefs but not sure that the benefits of getting involved are worth it, the “Coming to an Ocean Near You!!” seminar is for you. Hear from the experts, including those involved with the Vandenburg Project, how S2R projects are worth their effort and can revamp local economies and make dreams come true. This seminar will take place on Thursday, November 9th from 4:00 to 5:15 p.m.
Featuring an introduction by renowned Deep Sea Detectives team members, John Chatterton and Richie Kohler, the “What has Ships 2 Reefs Done for Diving Lately and How is it Likely to Affect YOUR Business in the Future?” seminar will provide information on how the S2R program is boosting the dive industry around the world by turning vessels into man-made reefs. This seminar will take place on both Wednesday November 8th from 9:45 to 11:00 a.m. and Friday November 10th from 1:00 to 2:15 p.m.
You can also catch John & Richie in the Ships 2 Reefs booth #1851 on Thursday, November 9th from 2:00 to 3:00 pm as they conduct a book signing for Shadow Divers or at DEMA’s Dunk Tank as they join in to support DEMA’s 2007 Disaster Assistance Program. Richie will take the plunge at 2:30 with John following at 3:00 p.m. Those doing the dunking will also get one entry into the Dunken Treasures raffle. Winners will be announced from the S2R Booth on November 9th and again on November 11th. For more information visit www.demashow.com.
The U.S. government has hundreds of warships in storage and must dispose of them. Doing so, in part by making them into man-made reefs would save taxpayers billions of dollars, help the environment by creating habitats for fish and marine life, create jobs and increase business for local dive retailers and those selling dive travel by creating new dive sites – a win-win for the diving industry.
